Async

2017

Short film

Duration: 9 min

Created for the International Short Film Competition initiated by Ryuichi Sakamoto and Apichatpong Weerasethakul.

Built from documentary footage recorded across different places and periods, the film assembles fragments of urban life, industry, landscape and human movement into a meditation on time, impermanence and isolation.

Async originated from an invitation to respond cinematically to music from async. Working with documentary footage gathered across different places, periods and environments, the film assembles fragments of infrastructure, industry, landscape and human presence into a reflection on time, transience and the unstable relationship between individual life and larger systems. The work draws inspiration from observational and non-narrative cinematic approaches, where rhythm, accumulation and juxtaposition become primary narrative forces.

The completed film was later shared on Ryuichi Sakamoto's official Facebook page.
